Grunge makeup is a take on the ’90s beauty that mixes a lived-in, smudged punk and gothic esthetic.
When it first hit the scene three decades ago, it was defined by dark, smudged eye makeup, matte foundation and a dark lip.
Now in its reincarnation, we’re seeing it played down, featuring only one of the above key elements — a dark eye liner or dark lip.
Here’s how I re-interpreted this iconic makeup look using a waterproof liquid liner.
I started by misting my face with MIFA Vitamin Sea Essence before evening out my complexion with MAC Studio Radiance Sheer Face and Body Foundation. While the look typically calls for a matte foundation, I opted for a more natural coverage formula to suite the summer season.
Next, I used the Dior Show On Stage Liner in black to draw a line along the outer corer of my eye, creating a cat-eye. I then drew a line from the inner corner of the eye connecting it to the outer liner. And finally drew a line along the lower lash line for a defined graphic look.
Lastly, I curled my lashes and gave them several coats of black mascara and kept my lip neutral.
